Ornella Bombaci, born in Italy in 1966, is today Responsible of Bids and Future Business Department and Product Line Manager (PLM) for Earth Observation Radar, uW Payloads and Constellations in Domain Observation and Navigation in Thales Alenia Space Italia. Degree in Electronic Engineering, Master in Radar Remote Sensing, mother of three, she has been working in TAS for 31 years, participating to several ESA and NASA Exploration Missions (CASSINI, MARS EXPRESS, EXOMARS) and EO Missions (SIRC/XSAR, KOMPSAT 5 Radar, ENVISAT MWR) as Radar Projects’ Technical leader and, in the recent past as Responsible of Observation Payloads Engineering department. She participated to the design, development and in orbit testing of the first Italian Earth Observation Satellites’ Constellation, Cosmo SkyMed, for the Italian Space Agency (ASI). As PLM she has contributed to the definition of the High Revisit SAR NIMBUS design assuring its readiness to be part of the IRIDE constellation to be delivered in 2025.

Thanks to the participation to MARSIS radar sounder design and development, she contributed to the discovery in 20-km-wide lake of liquid water underneath solid ice in the Mars Planum Australe region, published on July 2018 on “Science” First Release.
