Solar MEMS Technologies (SMT) is a technological based SME specialized in Micro Electromechanical Systems (MEMS) and its application to the space industry and other high technology markets. The expertise of the company includes:

• Development and optimization of sensors and detectors for ADCS technologies, including sun sensors, star trackers and horizon sensors.
• Development and optimization of OGSE/SCOE for ADCS sensors.
• MEMS technologies for space applications.
• Space hardware and software development, including electrical and mechanical custom designs.
• Engineering and R&D services, including development of new technologies for space applications.
• Nano/Pico satellite platform design and space projects management.
• Integration solutions and interfaces adaptation, including design and implementation of power subsystems, signal detection, conditioning and processing stages, communication interfaces and monitoring systems.

SMT main product portfolio includes sun sensors for different requirements and with several configurable options (analog/digital interface, field of view, communication protocol, etc.). With more than 3000 sun sensors delivered so far, SMT has established as one of the main sun sensor suppliers for small satellites in the newspace industry and maintains a consolidated position with its products included in ESA European Space Technology Harmonization (AOCS Sensors and Actuators Technical Dossier). Current SMT most important customers are AIRBUS ONEWEB SATELLITES, THALES ALENIA SPACE, AIRBUS D&S, OHB, NORTHROP GRUMMAN, NASA, DLR or USAFA among other companies, research centers and universities worldwide.

SMT is the official sun sensor supplier for AIRBUS ONEWEB constellation, using a new sun sensor development totally customized according to the mission requirements. For this program SMT had to industrialize the clean room manufacturing capabilities for high-volume production rates, developing the first sun sensor assembly line for mass production in satellites.

In addition, SMT has know-how in the development of complete nanosatellite missions. Our activities in this field include mission management, software development, I/F adaptations, mechanical and electronic tailored designs, integration processes, 3D modeling and simulation solutions (thermal, mechanical, orbital, etc.).
